Chialo kritisiert Scholz-Spruch: herabwürdigend und verletzend
In the midst of the final stretch of the election campaign, Berlin’s Senator for Culture, Joe Chialo, found himself at odds with Chancellor Olaf Scholz over what he described as “derogatory and hurtful” remarks made during a discussion. Chialo, who has roots in Tanzania, expressed feeling deeply affected by the words ‘court jester’ and ‘fig leaf’ used in reference to his role within the CDU during a conversation about migration and parliamentary votes.
Chialo’s Perception of Scholz’s Remarks
Following a phone call from Scholz on Wednesday, Chialo revealed, “He regretted in our conversation that his statements were understood as racist and explained that it was not his intention. I have noted his perspective. Moreover, I do not consider Olaf Scholz to be a racist. However, this does not change the fact that his words were demeaning and hurtful.”
Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz’s Rebuttal of Racism Accusations
After a report in “Focus” detailed Scholz’s use of the term ‘court jester’ in reference to Chialo, accusations of racism against the black Senator from the CDU were vehemently denied by Scholz and the SPD.
Chialo Breaks His Silence
Initially silent about the incident at a businessman’s gathering on February 2, Chialo, upon careful consideration and recognizing the public interest, chose to address the matter. “We are all under great pressure at the moment,” he added, seemingly alluding to the upcoming federal election on February 23. “It is all the more important that we handle this heated situation with thoughtfulness and decency. I hope we can return to a fair and factual exchange. For me, this matter is now closed.”
